Frequently Asked Questions

Q. What options do you offer for delivery?

A. Plants can either be collected or packaged for nationwide delivery. An extensive range of sundries, rabbit guards, canes and shelters are also available.

Q. Do you have any planting tips for a perfect hedge?

A. Certainly, please see below:

  1. Prior to planting, the hedge line should be sprayed with total herbicide (glyphosate) to kill the vegetation
  2. Ideally a shallow trench should be excavated approximately 500mm wide and the soil turned over. If this is not practical the hedge line should be rotavated or dug over by hand.
  3.
  4. The plant should then be notch planted with the use of a spade or if the roots allow a dibber may be used. Care being taken to plant to the plants original soil level.
  5. Plants for most species i.e. quickthorn, hazel, blackthorn should be planted at approximately 5 plants per liner meter in a staggered row 300mm apart.
  6. Plants should be well firmed and If desired cut back by a third to encourage new shoots.
  7. The hedging should then be mulched over its entire width with wood chip, bark mulch or spent mushroom compost to a depth of 50mm.
  8. Should there be a risk of rabbit damage a spiral guard supported by a stout cane should be fixed to each plant.
  9. The mulch will retain sufficient moisture but during periods of drought should be watered. The hedge line should be maintained weed free by either hand weeding or carefully spraying with glyphosate during the dormant period.
